Belle from ‘Beauty and the Beast’ inspired hair tutorial

Always wanted to be a Disney Princess? Yep, we haven’t grown out of that fantasy either!

We literally couldn’t be more excited about the release of Disney’s live action ‘Beauty and the Beast’ film. The romance, the gorgeous dresses, the enchanted castle – it’s the stuff dreams are made of. We’ve even got a soft spot for the grizzly Beast. And with the amazing Emma Watson heading up an all-star cast in the role of ‘Belle’, the new film is sure to be a box office smash.

So how do you fancy creating hair fit for a princess? To help you bring the fairy-tale to life, we’re giving you your very own fairy Godmother, the gorgeous Miss Alex. She’s going to show you exactly how to create Belle’s beautiful half-up, half-down look using clip-in hair extensions for extra volume and body.

Let’s get everything you need ready.

You’ll need

Ready? Action!

Apply your Lush clip-in hair extensions

First up, you need to apply your wefts. For this look, Alex used an 18 inch set in the shade 613. You want lots of volume for your half-down section so apply the smallest two-clip at bottom of your head, followed by a four-clip above that, then two three-clips and two two-clips above that. Clear as mud? Check out how Alex does it in the video and it will all make sense! If this is your first time using clip-in hair extensions, you might want to take a look at our how to apply clip-in hair extensions tutorial. Just hurry back OK? We miss you already.

Once you have clipped in your extensions, brush through both your natural hair and your extensions so it’s all nice and smooth. Then take your comb and trace up from your nose to create a centre parting.

Belle’s bun

To get Belle’s look, you’re going to create a half-up loose bun. Before you pin up your bun, add some volume to each side of your parting by backcombing it. Take your comb and gently push against your roots to give it some oomph.

Next, take a top section of hair on one side of your parting and use a hair grip to pin it up to the back of your head. Don’t worry about the bun yet, we’re just creating the half-up, half-down effect. Now take another hair grip and do exactly the same on the other side of your parting.

Once both sides are gripped up, grab a top section of hair at the back of your head that includes the leftover hair that you’ve gripped up. Make sure you leave plenty of hair in your half-down section. This top section will form Belle’s bun.

To do this, take your hair tie and pull the section of hair through it once before twisting the leftover hair inside it. It can help to watch the video for this part!

Once you have created your bun, pull it apart gently to loosen it and make it more voluminous. If it feels a little unsteady, you can grip it in place to secure it.

Tumbling princess waves

No Disney princess look is complete without those signature romantic waves we love so much. A thick-barrelled curling wand is the best tool for creating long, loose waves. Grab your wand and wrap random sections of your half-down hair (they should be about the same width as your barrel) around it. Hold for just a few seconds and release.

When you have finished curling, separate your curls with your fingers to create beautiful tumbling waves.

And there you have it, you’re all ready for a spin around the ballroom with your Prince. Or a night out with the girls – let’s face it, they’re way more fun right?
