How to get Chloë Moretz hair using clip-in hair extensions

Fresh, fast-talking, fearless – Chloë Grace Moretz has to be one of our favourite Hollywood stars of the moment. Once a super talented child star, she’s now transformed into an outspoken leading lady, starring in roles from ass-kicking superhero to classic horror girl, Carrie. And she’s not afraid to experiment with her hair either. While we love her rebellious spirit of adventure, our favourite Chloë Moretz look has to be her signature style of relaxed waves with a long side fringe.

So, in celebration of the lovely lady’s birthday, we’ve brought in our fantastic hair expert Miss Alex to show you exactly how to recreate Chloë’s gorgeous signature style. You’re welcome ladies.

First up, get everything you need ready.

Ready? You got this.

Clip in your Lush hair extensions

Get started by applying your Lush clip-in hair extensions. You’re trying to create extra volume rather than length for this look, so Alex is using an 18 inch set in shade 613. You can pick whichever shade matches your hair.

If you’re a clip-in hair extensions newbie, don’t panic – we’ve got you covered with our how to apply clip-in hair extensions tutorial.

Once you have applied your wefts, brush through your hair so it is smooth with no tangles. Then take your comb and create a deep side parting, just like Chloë’s.

Curl your way to Chloe perfection

The next step is to create those lovely loose waves that Chloë sports. We’re going for plenty of laid-back texture rather than tight curls today, so the bigger the barrel of your curling wand, the easier it will be to create this look.

Start by taking a section of hair that is roughly the same width as your curling iron barrel. Place your wand behind the section and wrap your hair around it, so that the waves flow away from your face. Don’t hold it for too long, remember we’re going for waves not curls. A couple of seconds should do it.

Repeat this process for the rest of this side of your head. To create that beautiful textured look, you want to mix it up a bit and have your waves flowing in different directions. You can achieve this by placing your curling iron in front of your hair for some of your waves, so that they flow towards your face rather than away from it. An easy but very effective tip!

Once you have finished curling one side, run your fingers through your waves to separate them and give them some volume.

Now it’s time to curl your long side fringe – a key part of Chloë’s signature look. Make sure you curl your fringe as close to your parting as you possibly can, keeping the wand behind your fringe so that the waves flow away from your face.

Finish curling the rest of this side of your head, mixing up the directions of your waves in exactly the same way as before. When you’re done, run your fingers through your waves to give them that loose look we want.

Pump up the volume

Once your waves are complete, you need to give them some extra volume. To do this, grab your comb and get backcombing! You should to focus some special attention on volumising your fringe as it’s so important to this look. Gently push your comb against your hair towards your roots to add in that volume.

For some extra texture, Alex sprays dry shampoo onto her roots before finishing the look with a spritz of hairspray over the waves.

You look amazing. We reckon some of that fearless Chloë spirit has rubbed off too!
